Laura Rodriguez Denton
Daisy Preschool, Assistant Teacher
Laura Denton was born and raised in the small town of Tabio, Colombia. For the past eight years, she has dedicated her life to working with children. In 2010, she began her career studying Child Pedagogy in Bogota, Colombia. Since the first day of class, she became very passionate and interested in early child education and development. While still finishing her Bachelors Degree in Child Pedagogy, Laura participated in various social programs working with children whose families had very little resources, children with special needs and social challenges. Caring for these children taught her to offer the best of herself and to always be there for any child she ever interacted with, no matter the social or economic level.
From 2015 to 2018, she began working as a Pre-K teacher at Cardenal Luque School in Bogota. She was tasked with maintaining standard expectations and exercising fun and engaging activities for the children.
In 2018, she decided to participate in a cultural exchange program with AupairCare. It was a big decision as she had never lived without her family, let alone in another country. She was excited to see what life would bring. With one bag packed, she flew to Austin, Texas where we would start her new journey with the Wilemon Family and work with two wonderful children for two and half years. This was her first introduction to Waldorf Education, which intrigued her and felt very natural.
While working with the Wilemon Family and finishing her program with Aupair, she met her husband James. She continued to work as a Nanny with various families where she had the opportunity to continue to develop her English and teach children Spanish.
For Laura, it’s been a wonderful journey, from her earlier experience in Bogota to learning a lot in the United States, she’s very excited to be part of the Living Oaks’ Team, foster a relationship with every child and further her education in Waldorf Pedagogy.
